WHAT MAKES A GOOD MUSIC VIDEO?

Here are my notes of analysis for three music videos:

Narrative Based- The decemberists: 16 military wives

-walking in rythem of the music, slow motion effect
-editing- words appearing to help tell the story
-voice over, pre-recorded
-cuts to each clip are a steady pace which matches the music
-Visuals reinforced in the music
-Close up camera angles to introduce the different characters
-different scenes in different sets for particualr parts of the story
-they put the lyrics of the song into telling the story and using it as a script for the characters

Performance Based- The white stripes: The hardest button to button

-Lots of cutting and editing
-Slices parts together to show instruments being played
-Quick cuts to match the quick, clear, catchy rythem of the music
-Red clothes and instruments which stood out from the dull grey scenary chosen
-Stop motion animation
-Old school retro, hasnt used a lot of transitions

Concept baded- Bjork: Declare independance

-Repetition in song which matches the repetition in movement
-Quick cuts
-Jumping up and down is repeated
-Catchy song
-Constant betaing sound is like the sound of the machinary

A2 ADVANCED PORTFOLIO PREPARATION: Music video remake task

Time limit- Filming will take place in our lesson time over a set number of lessons, so we will have a set number of hours in which to recreate our section of the video.

Casting-We have chosen, as a group of 7, that we will all star in the video to make it easier for us to film.

Location- We have chosen an area in our school which has the best match for the set in the video which will help us to re-create the video as bets as we can.
